Focus on the Path | Misfit Mindset

IN THIS SERIES

What if following Jesus was never meant to make you fit in? In this message kicking off the Misfit Mindset series, we explore what it really means to live different on purpose in a world constantly trying to shape us into its mold. Drawing from 1 Peter 2, Romans 12, and Jesus’ declaration at Caesarea Philippi, this teaching unpacks how identity in Christ reshapes the way we think, live, and respond to culture. From money and relationships to purity, purpose, and daily decisions, discover why transformation starts in the mind, why misfits are actually disciples, and how God gives us both the desire and the power to live His will.

In Week 2 of Misfit Mindset, Pastor Josh Hersey unpacks the powerful truth that identity precedes activity, showing from 1 Peter 2, John 3, Romans 8, Colossians 3, and Romans 12 that we do not earn our place with God by performance but receive it through adoption into His family. Through the story of Nicodemus and the language of being born again, this message confronts the exhausting mindset of striving and replaces it with the freedom of sonship, reminding us that when we truly understand who we are in Christ, we begin to live differently on purpose.

If you’ve ever felt the tension of following Jesus in a world that keeps pulling you to conform, this message is for you. In Week 3 of Misfit Mindset, we unpack what it really means to live different on purpose. Rooted in Psalm 143:10, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, and John 15, this teaching explores the powerful truth that identity comes before activity and that in order to do the will of God, we must first learn to abide in Him. We are not working for acceptance but from it. We are ambassadors of Christ, called to represent Him in a culture that often moves the opposite direction.

What if the freedom you’ve been fighting for is not about trying harder but thinking differently? In this fourth installment of the Misfit Mindset series, we dive into Colossians 3, Ephesians 4, Hebrews 4, and 1 Corinthians 10 to uncover what real repentance means and how to overcome sin, addiction, shame, and destructive patterns by leaning into the Rock instead of running from God. Discover the difference between to shuv and metanoia, why willpower is not enough to defeat temptation, how Satan distorts our view of God, and how to come boldly to the throne of grace even after you fail; if you are wrestling with sin, stuck in cycles, or longing for true spiritual freedom, this message will shift your mindset and draw you closer to the heart of the Father.

Most battles in life are not happening around us. They are happening inside our minds.

In this message from the Misfit Mindset series, we explore how the real fight for believers is often the battle for our thoughts. Scripture tells us to take every thought captive and to fix our minds on what is true, honorable, and worthy of praise. But that is much easier said than done. Worry, frustration, distractions, and everyday conflicts can quietly pull our thinking in the wrong direction before we even realize it.

There is a kind of life that refuses to blend in.

A life that does not follow the patterns of culture, but instead is shaped by something deeper, something eternal. In this message from our Misfit Mindset series, we step into the tension of what it means to live set apart in a world that constantly pulls us toward comfort, control, and conformity.

What happens when following Jesus does not make life easier, but actually leads you through storms?

This message dives into the reality that the battle is not just around us, it is within us. Our thoughts, our focus, and our perspective are where the real fight takes place. Scripture reminds us that we are not powerless, and that even in trials, God is doing something deeper than we can see.

Today we look at what does it actually mean to have the mind of Christ?

In this message, we walk through and uncover a truth that is both freeing and confronting. The mind of Christ is not about gaining intelligence, success, or control over life. It is about becoming like Jesus in how we think, live, and love.

Looking at Philippians 2, we see that Jesus, though fully God, chose humility, obedience, and sacrifice. He did not use His position for His own advantage. Instead, He laid it down for others. That mindset changes everything.

This message challenges the way we often approach faith. Many want the benefits of Jesus without adopting the posture of Jesus. But the invitation is deeper than that. It is a call to live selflessly, to step into discomfort for the sake of others, and to reflect the heart of Christ in everyday life.
