“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.” – Psalms 143:10
One of the most important things the gospel compels us to is generosity. Jesus did not withhold anything at the cross, he gave us his all. John 3:16 tells us that God loved the world so much that he gave… He gave His best and His all in Christ. Our response should be the same, we should withhold nothing from Him!
My hope is that you truly hear from God on what your next season of life and ministry looks like and how God might use you and me, and us together, as a faith family to impact all of eternity. God’s will is for us to leverage everything He has given us – time, talent, and treasure – all for His glory and invest in forever instead of storing up treasures on earth. It will require us to sacrifice time, comfort, resources, certainty, and other “life as usual” things to invest in eternal things that never fade.
Let’s commit, together, to surrender our own will and our own desires in order to hear from the living God. To ask Him to be our guide, our shepherd, to lead us in His will for our lives. After all, if we do, we know it will be a firm footing.
That every one of us asks ourselves, “Am I trusting God to lead me forward in His will or am I trusting in my own way?”
Through our generosity we will move forward by God’s leading in three gospel-centered initiatives.
We exist to reach people with the life-giving message of Jesus, that they may become fully devoted followers of Christ.
Invest in the next generation and our plus ones as we seek
a new permanent church home.
Share the gospel and care for those beyond the walls of the church through local, national, and international missions.
As we walk through this two-year discipleship journey, we have prepared resources to help you along the way. Download The Move Sermon Series Journal below.
Through The Move discipleship journey, God is using us to impact eternity. Our role is to lean in, listen to His voice, and be obedient to what He is leading us to do next. God first loved us by giving us His best in Jesus Christ, so we will respond to Him with our first and best.
You recently joined our church family and are wondering, “What is The Move discipleship journey and how do I become a part of it?” The Move is for anyone who would call COTR their church home and we welcome you to the family! We hope you will join us on this journey, asking, “Am I trusting God to lead me forward in His will or am I trusting in my own way?” Consider making a generosity commitment to The Move.
First and foremost, we are asking that you pray and seek God’s leading of obedience in your life. Prepare your heart to hear Him and then do what He says. Engage in a life group during this season, engage in personal reflection with God in The Move discipleship guide that you received during The Move series. Talk with your spouse, your family or others about what this commitment will mean for this next season of your life.
We are asking that you make a sacrificial commitment to gospel-centered generosity – whatever it is that God is leading you towards. Follow His leading. Finally, we ask that you prepare to be amazed. It is an awesome God that we serve. He is going to move in huge ways and we anticipate an unprecedented impact from our collective commitments to The Move – something only God can do.
You are invited to make a commitment from now until December 31, 2026.
You may have been part of church giving initiatives in the past, during which you were asked to give a second gift “above and beyond” your usual gifts to make special initiatives like new buildings and new ministries possible.
Normally, you gave that gift to a “Building Fund,” and you also continued to give offerings to the “General Fund.” At Church on the Rock, we believe that we are all ONE MISSION, which is reaching people with the life-giving message of Jesus. We want to encourage ourselves to unleash our generosity towards that mission.
The Move discipleship journey will last for two years. In those two years, every gift that is given to Church on the Rock will go to the three key components of The Move: Church Move, Next Move, and Missions Move.
Through The Move discipleship journey, every contribution to God through Church on the Rock is a contribution to a “one fund” towards The Move.
Every aspect of the ministry vision God is calling us towards will be funded through The Move. Every gift made will go into the same fund.
Therefore, every weekend becomes a day to celebrate and contribute towards what God is doing in us and through us to help us reach people with the life-giving message of Jesus.
The Move was crafted specifically with you in mind. The Move is a “one fund” generosity initiative, meaning that it is different from a traditional capital campaign where you are called to give an extra gift above and beyond your normal giving – thus creating two steps for people who aren’t yet giving. The Move is a call to sacrificial, gospel-centered generosity for absolutely everyone at Church on the Rock.
If you have never given before, this is your chance to get in the game with a committed sacrifice. We really hope you will.
The Move is about the vision for our church. We believe that the local church is one of the most compelling missions to give towards and we would really love for you to make Church on the Rock your home and join us in The Move.
If you are ready for it, this is a perfect time for you to make this your church.
People take different spiritual steps at different times. Some people begin praying before they begin attending church.
Others begin going to a life group before they begin talking to God in prayer. Giving is another spiritual step, and it comes at different times for different people.
One thing is for sure, just like other spiritual disciplines, giving draws us closer to God. And God is calling all of us to give. (Matthew 6:19)
Whether you have taken the spiritual step of baptism or not, we would encourage you to still join us in The Move discipleship journey. We firmly believe that it will draw you closer to God and hopefully to a place where you are ready to make the decision to be baptized.
